Dr Shahril is an Associate Professor at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and researches Nutritional Epidemiology and Public Health Nutrition specifically on non-communicable disease (including obesity) prevention and control. Currently, he is actively involved in research related to hybrid dietary pattern, objective measurement of sedentary behaviour, obesity among school children, healthy ageing trajectory, and their relationship with health outcomes among cancer patients and survivors. He is also working on projects related to innovative dietary assessment methodologies. He works in hand with government agencies, NGOs, and industries to advocate healthy eating, cancer and obesity prevention to the public. He has been trusted as a member of Malaysian Dietary Guidelines (2020) and Recommended Nutrient Intakes (2017) and recently as member of Technical Working Group for Nutrition Research under the auspices of Ministry of Health Malaysia. He is also a Life Member of Nutrition Society of Malaysia, Honorary Assistant Secretary of Malaysian Association for the Study on Obesity and Member of American Society of Nutrition.
