António Prista is a Full Professor of the Pedagogic University in Maputo, Mozambique where he is currently the Director of the Research Group on Health and Physical Activity (NIAFS). He earned a Bachelor´s degree in Physical Education at the Physical Education School in Maputo in 1976 and a Ph.D. in Sports Sciences at the Oporto University in 1994. He did post-doctoral training at the Universidade de São Paulo (Brasil), and has a Fulbright Invited Professor at Syracuse University and George Washington University (USA). His work was mostly done in research in school-aged populations in Mozambique in the fields of growth, motor development and physical activity and health in Africa. He has more than 200 publications (papers, book chapters and abstracts of scientific conferences). Currently he leads 5 scientific projects and participates in several international research groups. He is the current President of AFPAN (Africa Physical Activity Network).
